Just like last year, the company is speculated to launch two new smartphones with different screen-sizes – the heavily rumored iPhone 6s and its big-screened variant iPhone 6s Plus. The buzz about Apple’s next big thing is growing bigger, and with new leaks showing up, we already have a shady idea what can be expected this year.
In this article, we’ll be comparing Apple’s upcoming big thing with its current big thing, and see which one comes up as a better choice for prospective buyers. For now, we just have an idea about iPhone 6s, and on the basis of several leaks and rumors, we’ll show you whether it will be a worthy upgrade or not.
Like always, the latest “S” version from Apple will be designed on the foundation laid by its predecessor. The new device is said to be slightly thicker maybe due to a bigger battery, and is likely to be crafted from 7000 series aluminum. It’s the same material from Apple Watch, and will play a significant part in enhancing its strength to a whole new level. Let’s just say, bend tests will not be a problem for the iPhones coming this year. They’ll flaunt an incredible look, and will also come in a new Rose Gold color variant, as seen on the Apple Watch.
With identical resolution and screen-sizes, only one element is expected to mark the difference between the displays of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s. Till date, numerous reports, leaks, and rumors have suggested that Apple will include Force Touch Technology with its latest range of iPhones. This technology is currently available on new MacBook and Apple Watch, and can be used to trigger several functions by a hard press or tap on the screen. The technology is very useful, but isn’t available on any of the iPhones.
For processor, Apple is expected to upgrade iPhone 6s with the latest A9 chipset. The new processor will be a worthy upgrade over iPhone 6’s A8 chip, and will bring significant improvements in performance and battery capabilities. The RAM will be upgraded to 2GB, and on the top of that, a new less-power hungry Qualcomm chip will be added for delivering improved battery backup and LTE data speeds. The unparalleled performance of the new iPhone will be a major highlight for power users.
As for software, the new iPhone 6s is expected to bring the biggest upgrade of all times. The latest beauty from Apple will be running iOS 9 with a bunch of new features and upgrades. Older iPhones will also upgrade to iOS 9, but the new smartphone running iOS 9 out-of-the box will have few more qualities. The latest version of iOS on iPhone 6s is likely to tie-up with Force Touch Technology for enhance functionalities. There has also been a buzz that the keyboard of this OS will play part in enhancing performance to a whole new level. Either way, iOS 9 offering enhanced features and power capabilities, will be available on both iPhones.
In terms of camera capabilities, iPhone 6 and 6 Plus offered decent support with their 8MP rear and 1.2MP FaceTime cameras. The two smartphones packed best camera lens in the history of iPhones, and offered a perfect ecosystem for daylight as well as lowlight photography. They captured ideal slow-mo videos, but lacked on part of shooting at 2160p.
However, this time, things are expected to go differently with a higher pixel count. Rumors have been suggesting that Apple will install new cameras on its latest range of iPhones. There is still no confirmation, but reports have been coming in that iPhone 6s will boast an improved 12-megapixel camera with 4k video recording capabilities. The FaceTime camera will not be a big change, but will have an improved sensor for taking better selfies even in lowlight environments.
In terms of storage, iPhone 6s will follow the footsteps of its predecessor. Initially, buyers pleaded for replacing the entry-level 16GB version with 32GB, but rumors have suggested that Apple will be sticking with the same general storage options of 16GB, 64GB, and 128GB. And, just like old times, there will no room micro-SD card as well.
As far as connectivity is concerned, the new iPhone 6s and 6s Plus will be offering same options just like their predecessors. The new handsets will be equipped with options like, Wi-Fi, NFC for Apple Play, and LTE Advanced. They’ll give top-tier performance, and as mentioned before, will hold Qualcomm’s latest MDM9635M LTE chip, offering enhanced download speeds with minimal power consumption.
With enhanced thickness, we all want to see big battery capabilities with the new iPhone 6s and 6s Plus. But, as of now, reports have been suggesting that the devices will sport a smaller battery compared to their counterparts. While iPhone 6s is said to feature a 1715mAh battery compared to the 1810mAh battery of iPhone 6, the plus sized variant will be going down to 2750mAh from 2910mAh. Small reduction in battery capacity can be a reason to avoid bendgate. But still, it’s worth noting that iOS 9 will offer improved battery performance even with low capacity.
As for pricing, the new iPhone 6s and 6S Plus will take over the place of current iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. The price of iPhone 6, 6 Plus, and 5s will be dropped, but not by a very big margin. The official confirmation for pricing will be coming on September 9th.
In our opinion, the new iPhone 6s looks like a decent upgrade over its predecessor. It stronger and more powerful, and can easily cater all your needs without any glitches. For iPhone lovers, the next “S” variant will bring a bunch of surprises, and deliver top-grade performance just like other members of iPhone family.
